The Clay High School JV Gold Baseball team (8-2, 4-0 N.L.L.) traveled to Perrysburg to take on the 1st place (Buckeye Division) Yellowjackets and picked up a big 8-1 win in this cross-divisional matchup. The bats came out in middle innings as the boys scored all 8 eight their runs in innings 3-5. Led by key hits from Gavin Monto (.400) who had 4 RBI's on the night and Freshman Kyle O'Neill (.516) & Bryce Ostrander (.500) who would both each have 2 RBI's. The Eagles have now outscored their opponents 37-5 in their 4 game win streak.
On the hill, Kyle O'Neill (1.50 ERA) would get the nod and pick up his team leading 3rd win on the season. O'Neill would only allow 2 hits while punching out 5 in his 4 innings of work. Gavin Monto (1.40 ERA) would pick up the 3 inning save allowing only 1 hit and facing 2 over the minimum.
Kyle O'Neill would be the only player with multiple hits on the night going 2-3 with 2 RBI's, BB and a SB.
Clay will now travel to Fremont on Monday to take on the 2nd place Little Giants in a huge home and home series. Game time is set for 5 pm.
The JV Green baseball team wasted no time taking control Thursday, jumping out to a 7–1 lead after 2 innings and cruising to a 10–1 victory over St. John’s. The Eagles set the tone early, scoring 3 runs in the first inning before adding 4 more in the second. Clay’s offense remained steady, tacking on 3 additional runs over the final five frames.
With plenty of run support, Luke Thatcher delivered a strong performance on the mound. The southpaw tossed a complete game, allowing just 1 unearned run on 6 hits while striking out 6 and walking one.
Bryce Ostrander led the Eagles offense going 3-5 with a double, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBIs. Madden Penix who was 2-4 with 2 RBIs also had a mulit hit game. Jake Hernandez (1-3, 2R, RBI), Brody Katschke (1-3, 2R), Garren Cavitt (1-2, 2R, 2BB), Danny Harris (1-3, RBI), and Blake Mummert (1-3) all collected a hit a piece.
This win improves the JV Green's record to 5-2. They are back at it on Monday at home against Maumee, first pitch is at 5pm.

The Clay High School JV Gold Baseball Team (7-2, 3-0 NLL) won their 3rd league game in a row on Tuesday night in a 5 inning run-ruled game over Napoleon by a score of 12-2. The bats would start out on fire as the boys would score 11 runs in the first 3 innings. The Eagles would tally 11 hits in total raising their team batting average to a staggering .359 clip.
Maddox Byers (0.00 ERA) would pick up his first win on the mound this year coming in relief of starter Keenan Barber ( 2.00 ERA). Byers would go 3 innings not allowing a hit while only facing 1 over the minimum.
Players with Multiple hits for Clay included: Max Sutton (.423) went 3-4 with 2 RBI's, 2 runs and a double. Gavin Monto (.406) who would go 2-3 with 3 runs, 2 SB's and a RBI. Freshman Kyle O'Neill (.500) was 2-4 with 3 RBI's 2 runs and a 3B.
The Eagles remain atop the Cardinal division as the only undefeated team (1 game ahead of Fremont). Clay will now play at Buckeye division leader Perrysburg on Friday, game time is set for 5 pm.

Varsity baseball picked up their second win against Napoleon in as many days 8-0. On the mound Darin Fussell struck out 12 and allowed only 2 hits. Darin threw a complete game on only 74 total pitches. Leading the offense was Landon Echelberry 2-4 (RS, 2 RBI, SAC), Bryce Besgrove 2-3 (RS, RBI, HBP), Brayden Toneff 2-2 (RS, 2 RBI, HBP), and Carter Walendzak 2-3 ( RS, RB, BB). Also picking up hits was Dane Fussell 1-1 (RS), Chase Vriezelaar 1-2 (2 RS, BB), and Aiden Berryman 1-2 (RS, BB, SAC). This puts the Eagles record at 5-4 (2-1 NLL). The varsity will be back in action at home Friday 4/17/26 against Perrysburg starting at 5 pm.

The Eagles picked up their first league win of the season 11-0 on the road against Napoleon. On the mound Bryce Besgrove threw all 5 innings of the run rule shortened game. He struck out 12 Wildcat hitters, and surrendered only 1 hit. Leading the offense was Darin Fussell who was 2-2 with a grand slam and 5 RBI. Also picking up hits for the Eagles was Alex Goetz 1-3 (3 RS, 3B, 2 BB, SB), Landon Echelberry 1-2 (2 RS, RBI, 2B, BB), Brayden Toneff 1-2 (RS, RBI). This puts the Eagles record at 4-4 (1-1 NLL).
The JV Green baseball team earned a thrilling 8-5 victory over St. Francis on Tuesday night in dramatic fashion. The Knights and Eagles were knotted at 5 heading into the bottom of the 9th inning. With 2 runners on base and 2 outs, Bryce Ostrander was at the plate and, on a full count, launched a home run over the left centerfield fence to beat the Knights 8-5.
Clay's offense tallied 8 hits on the night, with Ross Cody leading the way (2-4, RBI). Garren Cavitt (1-4, R), Jake Hernandez (1-3, R, RBI, 2SB), Brody Katschke (1-4, 2R), Bryce Ostrander (1-3, HR, 3R, 3RBI), Danny Harris (1-4, 2RBI), and Billy Plomaritis (1-4, R) all collected a hit each.
Blake Mummert started for Clay pitching 2 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit with 2 Ks. Garren Cavitt provided a solid relief performance, going 3.2 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts. Jake Hernandez was dominant closing out the game going 3.1 innings allowing zero runs on 1 hit and 3 punchouts.
Clay is back at it tomorrow as they travel to St Johns. First pitch is at 5pm.

The Clay High School JV Gold baseball team (6-2, 2-0 N.L.L) won their 2nd league game in a row last night beating visiting Napoleon by a score of 10-1. The Eagles would pound out 12 hits on the night as 9 of their 11 batters would have at least 1 hit. Clay is now averaging over 7 runs a game and has a team batting average of .355.
ON the bump, Max Sutton (1.62 ERA) would pick up his 2nd win of the year going 4 strong innings where he would only allow 2 hits while punching out 6. Freshman Leyton Toneff (0.00 ERA) would come in and pick up the 3 inning save not allowing a hit and striking out 3.
The Eagles hitters with at least 2 hits included: Gavin Monto (.379) who was 2-4 with 2 runs, 2 steals and a RBI. Andrew Enck (.292) also went 2-4 with 2 RBI's, a run and a SB. Leyton Toneff (.350) would go 2-3 with 4 stolen bases and 3 RBI's.
Clay is now 1 full game in front of Fremont and Southview in the Cardinal Division ahead of tonight matchup at Napoleon. Game time is set for 5 pm.
The JV Green baseball team overcame an early deficit to take a 9-3 victory over Genoa on Monday night. The Comets plated 3 runs in the top of the first, but the Eagles pitching staff would hold them scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Clay was trailing 3-2 heading into the 3rd inning, Clay's offense came alive, plating 4 runs to take a 6-3 lead. The Eagles added 3 more insurance runs in the 4th inning and would go on to win 9-3.
Leading the Clay offense was Tommy Ray (2-4, R, RBI) and Blake Mummert (2-4, 4 RBI). Danny Harris (1-2, 2R), and Madden Penix (1-2, 2R, 2RBI) each contributed with a hit.
Ross Cody got the start for Clay and would allow 3 runs in 1 inning of work. Tommy Ray would come in relief and shut down the Genoa offense, going 5 strong innings while allowing 2 hits and striking out 2. Luke Thatcher closed out the game, giving up 1 hit and 2 strikeouts.
The Eagles are back in action tonight at home against St. Francis.
