    Varsity Baseball takes down Oak Harbor on Youth Night

    The varsity baseball team hosted youth night on a soggy Tuesday night, but came away with a 5-1 victory over Oak Harbor. On the mound George Edwards threw the first 4 innings, striking out 1, and not allowing a hit. Brayden Kelly threw the final 3 frames to pick up the victory, he gave up only 2 hits, and 1 earned run. Offensively the Eagles were led by Landon Eversman 2-3 (RS, SB, RBI, 2 2B, SB), Jacob Weseman 2-3 (2 RS, HBP), and Brannan Vargas 2-4 (RS, RBI). Also picking up hits was Ian DeWitt 1-3, and Brayden Toneff 1-3 (RBI). This puts the varsities record at 15-9 (10-4 NLL). The Eagles will conclude their regular, and league season on Friday (5/23/25) at home against Northview starting at 5 pm.

    JV Green Baseball takes down Genoa 16-0

    A steady heavy rain could not quiet the JV Green bats on Tuesday night as they scattered 12 hits and plated 16 runs in a shortened game due to weather. Clay jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning, added another 4 runs in the 2nd inning and an additional 9 runs in the 3rd inning.

    Tommy Ray lead the way for the Eagles at the plate going 3-4 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Other Clay hitters with two hits were: Garren Cavitt (2-2, 3 R, RBI) who is now hitting .404 on the season, Maddox Byers (2-3, 2 R, 3 RBI), and Talon Jackson (2-3, 1 R, 2 RBI). Landen Williams (1-2, 2 R, 2 RBI), Grant Vriezelaar (1-4, RBI), and Jaxson Krueger (1-3, R) all added a hit each.

    Codey Shimman got the start the for Clay and would hold the Comets scoreless. Shimman would go 4 innings giving up 3 hits with 5 strikeouts.

    Clay travels to Maumee tonight with the first pitch set for 5pm.

    JV Gold wins at Oak Harbor 5-1

    Make it 3 in a row now for the Clay High School JV Gold Baseball team (14-6, 9-5 NLL) as the boys traveled to Oak Harbor on a cold and rainy night as they would up-end the Rockets by a score of 5-1. The game itself would only feature 7 hits total in the game (4 by Clay) as the Eagles would find themselves in a pitchers dual. The Eagles would score 3 in the first frame and that would be enough for the Clay arms.

    Max Morrison (2.95) would get his 3rd win on the season as he got the nod, Morrison would completely overpower the Oak Harbor hitters striking out 8 batters in his 3 innings of work. Andrew Enck (1.75) would come into pick up a save in his season debut. Enck would pitch 4 strong innings pounding the zone throwing 53 pitches (44 strikes) while only allowing 1 earned. Opponents are now only hitting .207 off of Clay pitching on the year.

    Aiden Berryman (.375) would be the only player with multiple hits on Tuesday night going 2-4 with 4 stolen bases and 3 runs.

    The Eagles will now play a very good Maumee team on Wednesday night in their last home game of the year. First pitch is set for 5 pm.

    JV Gold wins big against Columbian 15-7

    The Clay High School JV Gold Baseball team (13-6, 9-5 NLL) would find themselves down 4-0 in the first inning on Monday night, the boys would battle back and score 14 runs in the next 3 innings to take a 14-5 lead at the end of the 3rd. The Eagles would cruise from there winning by a score of 15-7.

    Clay would have 11 total hits on the night, players with Multiple hits included: Jayce Derr who went 2-5 with 2 runs and a SB, Keenan Barber (.348) was 2-2 with 3 runs, 2 RBI's, a HBP and a SB. Russ Myers (.320) went 2-4 with 3 runs, a RBI and a BB. Dane Fussell was 2-3 with a RBI, a run, SB and HBP. Brandon McGee (.323) was 2-4 with 2 RBI's, a run and a SB.

    On the Mound Dane Fussell (0.00) would pick up his first win on the year in relief of starter Colson Alm (3.27). Fussell would be dominant in his 2 innings of work, striking out 4 Tornado hitters while not allowing a run. Kenton Holston would come in the final 3 innings to pick up the save punching out 4 batters while not allowing a hit.

    Clay will now travel to Oak Harbor to take on the Rockets Tuesday. First pitch is at 5.

    Varsity Baseball Beats Tiffin Columbian 4-1

    The varsity baseball team traveled to Tiffin and picked up a road win over Columbian 4-1. Three Eagle pitchers combined to surrender only 4 hits. Landon Eversman threw the first 3 giving up only 1 hit, 0 runs, and striking out 3. Darin Fussell came in relief throwing the next 3, striking out 2, and giving up 1 unearned run. Ray Campos came in to throw the final inning retiring the side in order, and striking out 1. Offensively the Eagles were led by Darin Fussell 2-3 (2 2B, 2 RBI, RS). Also picking up hits was Jacob Weseman 1-3, Brannan Vargas 1-3 (RBI, RS), and Ray Campos 1-3 (RBI). This puts the Varsity's record at 14-9 (10-4 NLL). The Eagles will be back in action tonight (5/20/25) at home against Oak Harbor starting at 5:00 pm.

    JV Green Baseball falls to SJJ 7-4

    The JV Green Baseball team struck first during Monday nights game against St. Johns plating 1 run in the bottom of the first. St. Johns would take the lead off a 3 run home run in the top of the 3rd inning, making it 3-1. Clay would scratch 1 more run in the bottom of the 5th inning cutting the lead to 3-2. St. Johns would add 4 in the top of the 7th which would be too much for the Eagles.

    The Eagles had 4 players with two hits each including: Garren Cavitt who leads the team with a .382 batting average going 2-3 with 2 runs scored, Landen Williams (2-4, R, RBI), Grant Vriezelaar (2-4), and Billy Plomaritis (2-3, 2 RBI).

    Gavin Monto got the start for Clay going 6.2 innings giving up 7 runs (3 earned) with 4 strikeouts. Garren Cavitt would come in and strikeout the one batter he would face.

    The boys are back at it tonight at home against Genoa. This game will be played on Ousky after the Varsity game.

    Varsity Baseball drops close one on Senior Night

    The varsity baseball team dropped a close one Saturday night to Perkins 4-2 on senior night. On the mound Jake Titgemeyer started going the first three innings striking out 1, and allowing only 3 hits. Coming in relief to throw the final 4 was Brayden Kelly striking out 3, and only giving up 1 hit. Offensively the Eagles were led by Jacob Weseman 2-3 (HBP). Also picking up hits was Jake Titgemeyer 1-4 and Brayden Kelly 1-3 (RBI). This puts the Eagles record at 13-9 (10-4 NLL). The coaching staff would like to thank our 8 seniors for their hard-work and dedication to the program over the past 4 years. The Eagles will be back in action today (5/19/25) on the road at Tiffin Columbian starting at 5:00 pm.

    JV GOLD GETS WIN AT PERKINS15-8

    The Clay High School JV Gold baseball team (12-6, 9-5 NLL) traveled to Sandusky to take on a 12 win Perkins team on Saturday and put the bats on full display as the boys would plate 15 runs in the final 3 innings to come out ahead 15-8.

    The Eagles would pound out 10 hits on the day working their "in game" adjustment to perfection. 7 different players would have a hit, the players with multiple hits included: Brandon McGee (.296) who would go 3-4 with 2 RBI's, 2 runs and a walk. Colson Alm was 2-3 with 2 RBI's, 2 runs, 2 BB's, a SAC bunt and a SB.

    Brandon McGee (2.00) would pick up his 2nd win on the year throwing 3 strong innings where he would only allow 2 hits and 1 earned. Max Sutton (3.29) would come in relief of Jayce Derr to close out the victory throwing an inning and a third striking out 2 batters while not allowing a hit.

    Clay will be back in action on Monday at home versus Tiffin Columbian starting at 5.
