Clay High School Unveils Historic Mural by Alumnus Dean Davis.
Yesterday was a proud and memorable day for Oregon City Schools as the district officially unveiled a landmark mural on the exterior of the Harold R. Potter Field House.
Spanning 3,200 square feet, the mural, created by nationally recognized muralist and 1996 Clay graduate Dean Davis, is believed to be, the largest mural on a public school campus in Ohio. The vibrant artwork captures the spirit, history, and pride of the Eagle Nation.
At 1:00 p.m., a special moment unfolded when Kristen Wamer, Dean’s former art teacher, visited the mural site with her current students. In a touching tribute, Ms. Wamer was invited to color in the eagle’s eye, symbolically bringing the mural to life. The gesture highlighted the deep roots of mentorship and artistic inspiration that helped shape Davis’s journey.
Then, at 6:00 p.m., community members gathered for the official unveiling, showing their strong support and school pride. The event was filled with celebration, reflection, and admiration for the mural’s powerful imagery and message.
“This mural is a celebration of Clay pride and our connection to the community,” said Principal Jurski. “It’s especially meaningful that it was created by one of our own, honoring Clay’s past while inspiring its future!”
The project was made possible thanks to private donor support secured by the Oregon Schools Foundation and was officially approved by the Oregon Board of Education. Painting began on September 2.
Now complete, the mural stands as a vibrant symbol of Clay’s enduring spirit and community pride. Thanks to everyone who was in attendance. - Sep 19, 2025 · Oregon City School District
