Eagles Win Home Opener
Timely hitting secured a 4-2 win for the Eagles in the home opener against Maumee. Lindsey Jones hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 5th inning to tie the game at 1 all. Brynn Reiter hit a triple to right field to start the rally in the top of the 6th inning. Two batters later, Maddie Franke hit a 2-RBI triple to left field and then scored when Maumee missed the cut on the relay. In the top of the 7th, after a pair of errors by the Eagles and 1-out walk, Brynn made a spectacular diving catch in shallow center field that scored one for the Panthers. A line drive down the right field line threatened to tie the game until Bri Skadsheim made an amazing game-saving catch. Emily Cordell pitched the complete game with no earned runs on 4 hits with 7 strikeouts and 3 free passes. The Eagles will be televised again on BCSN when they travel to the CYO Fields on Monday to face Central Catholic.
Varsity Softball Shoots Down the Arrows
The varsity softball team traveled to St. Ursula and shot down the Arrows by a score of 12 – 5. Emily Cordell threw the last 5 innings holding the Arrows scoreless to earn the win. The bomb squad was active as Olivia Haas hit a home run on the first pitch of the game, then added a second solo shot to lead off the 6th inning. Maddie Frankie hit a 2-run dinger and Ellie Haynes added a 2-run bomb in the second varsity game of her career. Join the Eagles for the home opener on Saturday as they face Maumee at noon.
Varsity Softball Wins Season Opener
The varsity softball team won the season opener at Genoa by a score of 24-3. Olivia Haas threw three no-hit, scoreless innings with five strikeouts. The air was cold, but the bats were hot, as every player recorded at least one hit for the Eagles. Zoi Zahradnik led the offense with a 4 for 4 night which included two doubles and seven RBI. Maddie Franke went 3 for 3 with a double, a triple, and 3 RBI. Ellie Haynes went 4 for 5 with a double, a triple, and 3 RBI in her first varsity appearance. Lily Cordell had a big night with a 3 for 4 showing recording the first homerun of the season for the Eagles. The team will travel to St. Ursula on Thursday for a 5 pm start. Come out and show your Eagle pride as the game will be televised on BCSN.
