Club Information
Our purpose is to teach high school co-ed athletes how to safely get stronger by committing to lifting three days a week. We have fun as a club that recognizes hard work and team spirit!
Club members are Clay High School students in grades 9-12. No experience is necessary! We have some athletes moving big weight, but they didn't start that way on day one. Everyone in a weight room has a first day and for many of our lifters, that is with us. Regardless of experience, we teach and reinforce safe lifting techniques. New members may join annually in November. There will be an informational meeting in mid-October during STRIDE. Check the Calendar page for more information.
Club members compete in Bench Press, Squat & Deadlift. Proper technique is emphasized for all three lifts. Participants are also challenged with several supplementary and core exercises.
Lifter Anna Rew and Coach Adam Buckner rebooted the once proud club in 2016. They grew the program from a handful of athletes to roughly 25 lifters over the next three seasons. Coach Buckner stepped down at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season to spend more time coaching his 5 young kids. The club was looking for a new coach, so Nathan Quigg stepped in. The club quickly grew to max size. Due to the limited size of our weight room, we are limited to 36 lifters so there is a waiting list to join. We lift three nights a week from November - March. The team attends 4-5 meets each winter, finishing at the Kenton State Meet in March.
