    Hockey crowned Champs at Adam S. Hamilton tournament!

    The Varsity Hockey team completed a historic weekend, going undefeated and winning the Adam S. Hamilton tournament at Kent State University over the weekend.

    Friday night, the Eagles took on Red division Perrysburg to open the tournament. Lucas Titgemeyer opened the scoring in the first period, burying a pass from linemate Grady Minnick. Minnick added a goal of his own in the second period to extend the lead to 2-0. In the 3rd period, Brady LeMay took the lead to 3 goals when he scored off another pass from Grady Minnick. Julian Peterson and Andrew Schrauder also added an assist a piece.

    Goalie Brennan Przybylski was outstanding in net. Stopping 36 of 37 shots on goal and picking up the 3-1 victory.

    Saturday morning, Clay took on Amherst Steele. Avenging an early season loss, the eagles' offense erupted to the tune of 7 goals. Grady Minnick (2g, 2a), Andrew Schrauder (2g 1a), Gavin Minnick (1g), Xander Kert (1g 1a), and Brady LeMay (1g, 1a) were the goal scorers. Billy Plomaritis picked up the win in net, stopping 18 of 20 shots.

    Saturday afternoon Clay took on another tough opponent in Mentor. The defense was the difference in this game, which had a 4-1 final. Andrew Schrauder facilitated the offense with 3 assists. Goal scorers included Seniors Luke Titgemeyer and Grady Minnick, along with Sophomores Evan Quandt and Brady LeMay (1g, 1a). Xander Kert and Russ Myers each added an assist as well. Brennan Przybylski got the win stopping 23 of 24 shots.

    Championship Sunday featured a Friday night rematch against Perrysburg. After a scoreless 1st period, Perrysburg scored 2 goals in the 2nd. They would take that lead deep into the third period. With 5:50 left in the game, Xander Kert sent a long pass to Andrew Schrauder who drove the net, with Brady LeMay there to clean up the rebound. Then, with the goalie pulled and 50 seconds remaining, LeMay again cleaned up the rebound from Kert and Evan Quandt, tying the game for Clay. The excitement didn't stop there. With 4 seconds left on the clock, Grady Minnick beat the Perrsyburg goalie with an in close shot, completing the thrilling comeback to win the tournament! Brennan Przybylski had another strong performance, stopping 23 of 25 shots against.

    Clay returns home Friday night for an NHC league game vs Lake, travel to Amherst for a Saturday game. The JV will host a game Sunday at 4:30 pm vs Elyria Catholic.

    Hockey goes 3-1 on the weekend.

    The Varsity hockey program went 3-1 over the weekend, good enough for 2nd place in the tournament. Overall, the Eagles sit at 6-2-2 on the season.

    Friday's game ended with a 7-0 Clay victory vs Team Ohio Club. Xander Kert led the Eagles with 2 goals. Other scorers were Luke Titgemeyer, Julian Peterson, Grady Minnick, Andrew Schrauder, and Evan Quandt. Freshman Brennan Przybylski was credited the shutout in net.

    Saturday morning came with a loss to Benedictine. Clay outshot their opponent 44-12 but came up short. Brady LeMay scored the only goal for the Eagles.

    Saturday night's win vs Holy Name ended 8-0. A career day for Senior Grady Minnick, he ended the game with an impressive 6 goals, he also added an assist. Andrew Schrauder and Russ Myers were the other goal scorers. Billy Plomaritis got the shutout in net.

    Sunday's contest went in favor of Clay 5-2 against St. Ignatius(B). Grady Minnick netted 2 goals. All goal scorers in the game were Seniors. Luke Titgemeyer, Xander Kert, and Andrew Schrauder each had a goal a piece.

    Clay is out of town again this coming weekend when they travel to Kent State, and will face tough competition in Perrysburg, Amherst, and Mentor.

    Varsity Hockey beats Anthony Wayne

    The Clay Varsity hockey team continued NHC league play last night, traveling to BG for a road match vs Anthony Wayne. The Eagles paid homage to the City of Oregon, wearing its Blue "The Bay" alternate jerseys.

    After a sluggish start, the Eagles offense finally got rolling in the second period. Freshman defenseman Ben Watkins broke the scoreless tie when his shot from the point got through. It was the first goal of the game, and the first career Varsity goal for Watkins. The youngster wasn't done there, a few minutes later, he again found the back of the net, making the score 2-0.

    Clay took off from there, ending the game early with a score of 10-0. Other goal scorers included Andrew Schrauder (3 goals), Russ Myers (1 goal, 1 assist), Xander Kert (1 goal, 1 assist), Gavin Minnick (1 goal, 1 assist), Jayce Leathers (1 goal), and Evan Quandt (1 goal). Billy Plomaritis picked up the win in net, stopping all 9 shots for a shutout.

    Clay travels out of town this weekend to play in the Benedictine Thanksgiving tournament. There they will face off against Team Ohio, Benedictine, Holy Name, and St. Ignatius.


  • JV celebrates after it's first game, victory

    Hockey opens league play, first JV game a success!

    Clay Varsity Hockey opened up NHC play over the weekend hosting the Blue Devil Hockey Club Friday night, and Anthony Wayne Saturday.

    Clay scored early and often vs BDHC, a game that ended after 2 periods with final score of 13-1. Sophomores Talon Jackson, Jake Hammond, and Gavin Getzinger, along with Freshman Earl Roughton Jr. all registered their first Varsity goals. Other goal scorers included Evan Quandt (3 goals), Xander Kert (2 goals, 2 assists), Andrew Schrauder (2 goals, 2 assists), Luke Titgemeyer(1 goal, 1 assist) , Grady Minnick (3 assists), and Brady LeMay (1 goal, 3 assists). In net, Freshman Brennan Przybylski stopped 9 of 10 shots, and added an assist in his first career Varsity Win.

    Saturday night, it was Anthony Wayne that had to deal with the Eagles offense. In the first period, Sophomore defenseman Russ Myers scored his first Varsity goal, giving Clay a 4-1 lead. Points were again plentiful including Grady Minnick (1 goal, 3 assists), Brady LeMay (1 goal, 1 assist), Gavin Minnick (goal), Jake Hammond (goal), Andrew Schrauder (2 goals), Evan Quandt (goal), and Sean Beavers Jr. (goal). Xander Kert facilitated the offense with 6 assists in the game to go along with a goal of his own. Sophomore Billy Plomaritis picked up his first Varsity win, stopping 8 of 10 shots. The final was 10-2.

    Sunday morning, Clay played Perrysburg in its first ever Junior Varsity game. Drake Andring broke the scoreless tie in the 2nd period. Gavin Getzinger added a goal late in the third, helping the Eagles secure a 2-0 victory. Brennan Przybylski picked up the shutout.

    The Varsity team is back in action Tuesday night @Anthony Wayne (Slater family ice arena) before heading out of town for the Benedictine Thanksgiving tournament.

    Varsity Hockey opens season, school record broken

    The Clay Varsity Hockey team opened their season this past weekend, playing 3 games in Rocky River. The Eagles faced tough competition, including Amherst Steele, Rocky River, and Mentor (Mentor played in last year's state final four). After a rocky start vs Steele (2-3 loss), Clay rebounded with a pair of ties to finish the weekend.

    **SCHOOL RECORD**

    Sunday vs Rockey River, Senior Andrew Schrauder got loose while shorthanded and scored career goal #118, good enough for the school record. That record had stood for over 20 years, previously held by Sean Hintz (2000-2004). Andrew finished the weekend with 2 goals, and 4 assists.

    Many other Eagles were involved in the action. Including returning all NHC seniors Xander Kert (4 goals), and Grady Minnick (1 goal, 3 assists). Junior Gavin Minnick, returning from injury, also tallied a goal and an assist.

    Clay has 14 new players this season, who also chipped in over the weekend. Sophomores Evan Quandt (4 goals), and Brady LeMay (1 goal, 4 assists) paced the youngsters.

    Varsity will open up NHC league play hosting BDHC this Friday night at 7pm, and Anthony Wayne this Saturday night at 9:30pm, both at the Team Toledo Ice House. The Junior Varsity team will also travel to Slater Family Ice Arena 8:30am Sunday morning to take on Perrysburg.
