All good things must come to an end…the varsity softball team had an amazing season, but today did not go as planned. The Eagles made it to the Sweet 16, but lost to Westerville Central in the regional semi-final by a score of 3-9. Emily Cordell and Zoi Zahradnik shared pitching duties for Clay. Six different players recorded a hit for the Eagles but Lily Cordell was the only player with a multiple hit night. She went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Maddie Frankie recorded the only extra base hit with a solo home run and a sacrifice fly to claim 2 RBI. Ellie Haynes, Grace Montgomery, Belle Ringle, and Vanessa Wilk each recorded singles while Jenna Swartz had a strong defensive showing at second base. The Eagles finished the season with a record of 22-6, a District Championship trophy, and the NLL Cardinal Division Championship.

The varsity softball team captured the District Championship with an 11-3 victory over Northview on Friday at BGSU. The varsity softball team sent the seniors out with a bang by winning their last home game with a 5-4 victory over Springfield last night. The evening started with a surprise for the 5 seniors as family members threw out ceremonial “first pitches” to the seniors. Then to start the game, Olivia Haas, who has missed her entire senior season due to a knee injury, threw out the actual first pitch of the game. It was a back-and-forth battle until the top of the 5th when the game was knotted up at 4 all. Solid defense on both sides kept the game tied until Ellie Haynes hit a walk-off home run on the first pitch in the bottom of the 7th inning to secure the victory. Zoi Zahradnik (Zah-rod-nick) threw the last 3 innings holding the Blue Devils scoreless with 2 hits, 4 strike outs, and zero free passes, to record the win. Jenna Swartz went 3 for 3 at the plate with 2 doubles and an RBI while Maddie Franke added 2 doubles. The Eagles will travel to Fremont Ross tonight to finish a suspended game and then will face Northview on Friday for the District championship at BGSU.

When the game is canceled, the team goes to breakfast.
The varsity softball game at Fremont Ross was suspended after one full inning on April 22. It was rescheduled for May 16...and rained out again. Now rescheduled for Thursday, May 21 at 6:00. The game will resume in the top of the 2nd inning with the Eagles up 4-0.

Emily Cordell was lights out in the circle at Bowling Green to record the 5-0 win on Friday. She threw a no-hitter, shutting out the Bobcats with 15 strikeouts in 7 innings of work. She was 3 walks away from a perfect game, and one strikeout shy of tying the school record. Twin sister Lily Cordell played centerfield and was on fire at the plate. She went 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple, an RBI and scored 3 of the 5 Eagle runs. Lily was one diving catch away from hitting for the cycle as the BG centerfielder robbed her of a double. Zoi Zahradnik went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 2 RBI. Ellie Haynes and Maddie Franke each contributed a double while Jenna Swartz added a single.

What a game for the varsity softball team! They defeated 5th ranked Tiffin Calvert by a score of 8 to 6. Zoi finished the game and shut down the Senecas to record the win, striking out 6 out of the 13 batters she faced. Great game ladies! The Eagles will travel to Bowling Green for a league match up on Friday at 5:00.

Down 3 to 5 in the top of the 7th, Lily led off the inning with a hard shot at the shortstop who committed an error. Ellie continued the rally driving a ball at the left fielder who let it go between her legs, scoring Lily. The Eagles tied the game on a wild pitch by the Blue Devils. Springfield manufactured a run in the bottom of the 7th on 2 hits and a squeeze to end the game. The Eagles will take on state ranked Tiffin Calvert on Wednesday at the Oregon Rec at 5:15.
