JV Green holds off Findlay's late rally to win 7-6
The JV Green baseball team held off Findlay's 7th inning rally to beat the Trojans, 7-6. The Eagles were leading 7-2 going into the 7th, but after a few walks and hits the Eagles lead was cut to 1. Landen Williams came in relief with the bases loaded in the 7th with no outs and would escape the jam.
Clay got the offense going in the bottom of the 2nd when Jaxson Krueger hit a grand slam over the centerfield fence putting Clay up 4-1. The Eagles would tack on 3 more runs in the bottom of the 5th. The Eagles were led at the plate by; Garren Cavitt (1-4, R), Billy Plomaritis (1-2, R), Codey Shimman (1-1, R), and Jaxson Krueger (1-3, R, 4RBI).
Jaxson Krueger got the start for Clay going 3 innings allowing 2 runs on 1 hit and 5 strikeouts. Jayce Leathers came in relief going 3 innings giving up 4 runs on 3 hits. Landen Williams would slam the door shut in the 7th with the bases loaded giving up no runs and no hits.
Clay will return to the diamond tomorrow when they host Maumee. Tommy Ray will be on the bump for Clay, first pitch is at 5pm.

Varsity Baseball Drops Game 2 Vs Napoleon 4-0
The varsity baseball team dropped their home game with Napoleon last night 4-0. On the mound Darin Fussell threw the first 5 1/3, striking out 6, not allowing a walk, and gave up only 4 hits in the losing effort. Throwing the final 1 2/3 was George Edwards, and Bryce Besgrove. The offense had problems getting the big hit last night. Leading the offense was Jacob Weseman (2-3, 2B). Also picking up hits was Bryce Besgrove (1-3), and Brannan Vargas (1-3). This puts the varsities record at 9-5 (6-1 NLL). The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow on the road at Maumee starting at 5 pm.

JV Green Baseball falls to Perrysburg 5-0
The JV Green baseball team looked to hand Perrysburg their first loss of the season Wednesday night but the Yellow Jackets would remain perfect on the season beating Clay 5-0 and improving to 16-0. The Eagles offense was quiet on the night only getting 3 hits off the bats of Gavin Monto (1-3), Billy Plomaritis (1-3), and Landen Williams (1-3).
Codey Shimman got the start for Clay going 5.1 innings and allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts. Luke Thatcher came in relief of Shimman going 1.2 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits. Perrysburg came into the game averaging 13 runs a game and the Eagles defense would hold them well under that mark.
Clay looks to get back on track tonight when they host Findlay at 5pm. Jaxson Krueger will take the mound for the Eagles.

6th League win in a row for JV Gold Baseball with win at Napoleon 12-1
Make it 6 League wins in a row for the Clay High School JV Gold Baseball team (8-2, 6-1 NLL) as they complete the season sweep on the road of 3rd place Napoleon by a score of 12-1. The Eagles would use a 9 run, 2 out rally in the sixth inning to stretch the lead to 12-1 and make it a run-ruled shortened game.
Aiden Berryman (0.42) took the hill for Clay and would once again have his opponents off balance as he would throw a six inning complete game. Berryman would only allow 3 hits on the night and strikeout 4 batters to pick up his 2nd win on the year.
At the plate, the boys have now scored an even 100 runs on the year (10 a game average) and now sit at a .355 average (.459 OBP). In a game where all 9 starters scored a run there were 2 players with Multiple hits: Freshman Kennan Barber (.500 tied for team lead) went 3-4 with 2 runs, a RBI and a SB. Freshman Andrew Enck (.450) was 2-4 with 2 RBI's and a run.
The Boys will now face a tough test on Friday as they welcome cross-division foe Anthony Wayne at home starting at 5.

Varsity Baseball Wins on Road Against Napoleon 11-3
The varsity baseball team took the first game of their two game series with NLL Cardinal foe Napoleon on the road 11-3. On the mound Landon Eversman threw the first six innings, scattering 5 hits, walking 1, and allowing only 1 earned run to pick up the victory. Coming in relief to get the final 3 outs was George Edwards striking out 1 in the effort. Offensively the Eagles were paced by Ian DeWitt (3-3, 4 RS, 2 RBI, BB), and Brannan Vargas (2-3, 2B, RS, HBP, 4 RBI). Also picking up hits was Brayden Toneff (1-4, RS, BB), Landon Eversman (1-5, RS), and Bryce Besgrove (1-2, 3 RS, 2 BB). This puts the varsities record at 9-4 (6-0 NLL). The Eagles will be back in league action at home against Napoleon tonight starting at 5:00 pm.

Clay JV Gold Baseball remains in 1st with win over Napoleon 8-1
The Clay High School JV Gold Baseball team (7-2, 5-1 NLL) remains atop the Cardinal Division with a solid win over 3rd place Napoleon on Monday night by a score of 8-1. The Eagles would take an early 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning and never look back from there.
Jayce Derr (2.39) would pick up his team leading 3rd win on the night as the starter would go a strong four and two-thirds innings where he would only surrender 2 hits while striking out 7 Wildcat hitters. Max Morrison would then come in to pitch the next inning and two-thirds only giving up 1 hit on 4 punch outs. Brandon McGee (2.12) would pitch the last two-thirds as the boys are now only allowing their opponents to hit .214 off of them for the year.
Clay would have another double digit hit total (11) making it the 6th time in 8 games this year. Players with a muti-hit game included: Max Morrison (.538 team lead) who was 3-4 with 2 runs, 2 doubles and a RBI. Aiden Berryman (.346) was 2-3 with 2 runs and a double. Freshman Russ Myers (.478) was 2-3 with 2 RBI's, and a double.
The Eagles will now look for the season sweep and try to remain ahead of Southview tomorrow when they travel to Napoleon to face the Wildcats at 5 pm.

JV Green baseball drops one to Southview
Southview capitalized on some costly mistakes by the Eagles in the 3rd inning of Thursday nights contest and scored 4 runs which would be more than enough to capture the win. Clay plated 2 runs in the bottom of the first but the bats would go quiet the rest of the game. Garren Cavitt led the way for Clay at the plate going 2-2 with a run scored. Talon Jackson (1-4) and Tommy Ray (1-3) were the only other 2 Eagles with hits.
Jaxson Krueger got the start for Clay he would go 2.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 2 hits. Luke Thatcher continues to be a bright spot on the mound for the Eagles. The lefty came in relief and would pitch the final 4.2 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits.
Clay looks to bounce back and get back in the win column when they take on Northview tonight at home. First pitch is at 5pm.

Varsity Baseball Picks Up Road Win against Bedford 4-2
The varsity baseball scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th to break a 2-2 tie to earn the road victory over Bedford. On the mound starter Max Sutton threw the first 3 2/3, striking out 4, and scattering 3 hits. Max Morrison picked up the win in relief tossing the remaining 3 1/3, allowing only 1 earned run, and giving up only 2 hits. Leading the offense with multi-hit efforts was Bryce Besgrove (3-3, RBI, BB), and Darin Fussell (2-4, RS, 2 RBI, SB). Also picking up hits was Brayden Toneff (1-3, BB), Landon Eversman (1-3, RS, BB), Ian DeWitt (1-3, RBI, and SAC), and Ty Franke (1-3, 2B, RS). This puts the varsities record at 8-4 (5-0 NLL). The Eagles will be back in NLL action at home today (5/25/25) against Northview starting at 5 pm.
