The Clay high School JV Gold Baseball team (13-4, 8-2 N.L.L.) would lose a tough road battle to Findlay on Friday night by a score of 3-2. The Eagles just could not get the bats or clutch hits when the time mattered the most.
Max Sutton (1.00 ERA) would pitch brilliantly going to the full 6 innings not allowing an earned run in the process. Sutton would also punch out 5 on the night.
Clay just couldn't string together hits on this cold, windy and rainy night only getting 7 in total. Players with multiple hits included: Keenan Barber (.400) who would go 2-2 with a RBI, sac fly and a SB. Maddox Byers (.364) was 2-3.
The Eagles now hold a 2 game lead over Southview heading into tonight matchup with Springfield. The game time is set for 5 pm in Holland.

The JV Green baseball team earned its second victory of the season over St. John’s on Friday night, beating the Titans 4–2 and improving its record to 10–3.
The game was tied at 2 heading into the bottom of the 6th when Easton Schnabel delivered a clutch single up the middle, scoring Ross Cody from 2nd to give the Eagles a 3–2 lead. Blake Mummert followed with a double to right field, bringing Schnabel home and adding an insurance run.
Offensively, Ross Cody led the Eagles with a 2-2 day at the plate. Madden Penix (1-3, R), Easton Schnabel (1-2, R, 2 RBI), and Blake Mummert (1-3, 2B, RBI) also contributed hits. As a team, Clay continues to swing the bats well and is currently hitting .318 on the season.
Luke Thatcher earned the win with a complete-game performance on the mound, allowing just 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 3.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday as they host Whitmer, with first pitch scheduled for 5pm.

The varsity baseball team picked up a big cross division victory by shutting out Findlay 4-0. On the mound Landon Echelberry was dominant going the distance to pick up the victory. He struck out 9 Trojan hitters, scattered 3 hits, and walked only 2. The Eagles scored 3 runs in the second and tacked one on in the 5th. Offensively the Eagles were led by Alex Goetz 1-3 (2 RBI), Bryce Besgrove 1-3 (RS, 3B), and Brayden Toneff 1-1 (RS, BB, HP). This puts the Eagles record at 13-4 (9-1 in NLL). The Eagles will be back in action on Monday at home in league action against Springfield starting at 5:00 pm.

Varsity baseball scored 4 in the top of the first to help earn the victory over state ranked St. John's 6-3. On the mound the Eagles received an outstanding pitching performance from Jayce Derr who went the first 4 2/3 to pick up the win. Jayce had 5 K's and walked only 1. Max Morrison came in to pitch the final 2 1/3 and added two more strikeouts. Leading the offense was Darin Fussell 2-4 (RS, 2B) and Brannan Vargas 2-2 (2 RBI, BB). Also picking up hits Alex Goetz 1-4 (RS, 2B), Bryce Besgrove 1-2 (2 RS, RBI, 2 BB, SB), Brayden Toneff 1-2 (2 RS, 2 BB), and Chase Vriezelaar 1-2 (2 RBI, BB). This puts the Eagles record at 12-4. The Eagles will be back in league action to finish out the week at home today (5/1/26) against Findlay starting at 5 pm.

The Clay High School JV Gold baseball team (13-3, 8-1 N.L.L.) picked up a huge road victory in extra innings last night against a tough St. John's team by a score of 5-3. The Eagles would not pick up their first hit in the game till the 7th inning when Gavin Monto (.404) laced a single into right field to break-up the no-no. Clay would find themselves down 3-1 in the 7th as Max Sutton (.313) would drive a ball to the fence in right that would plate Monto. Keenan Barber (.372) would then hit a double down the right field line scoring Kyle O'Neill (.417). In the eighth, Maddox Byers (.316) would pound a double into the right-center gap setting the stage for Monto to set up a perfectly executed squeeze that would plate Russ Myers to take the lead and never look back.
Kyle O'Neill (1.29 ERA) would shine on the mound for Clay going 7 dominant innings where he would hold the Titans to only 2 hits while striking out 6. Andrew Enck (2.75 ERA) would then come in the 8th inning and slam the door on St. Johns on his way to picking up his first win of the season.
The Eagles now travel to Findlay tonight trying to take on the Trojans to try and stretch their lead in the division. Game time is set for 5.

Varsity baseball earned another conference sweep by beating BG on the road 15-4. On the mound Bryce Besgrove threw the first 3 of the run rule shortened game to pick up the win. In the three innings of work Bryce struck out 7 and allowed only 1 walk. Also throwing an inning a piece was Brayden Toneff and Max Morrison. The offense once again got off to a hot start scoring 3, 1, and 10 in the first 3 innings. Leading the offense was Aiden Berryman 3-3 (2 RS, 2 RBI, SB). Also picking up hits was Alex Goetz 2-2 (2 RS, BB, SB), Landon Echelberry 2-3 (2 RS, 4 RBI, HR, BB, SB), Brannan Vargas 2-3 (2 RS, RBI, 2 2B), Darin Fussell 1-3 (RS), Ray Campos 1-1 (RS, 2B), Brayden Toneff 1-3 (2 RS, 2 RBI), Dane Fussell 1-1 (RBI), Kenton Holston 1-1, Chase Vriezelaar 1-2 (RS, BB, SB), Declan O'Connor 1-1. This puts the Eagles record at 11-4 (8-1 NLL). The Eagles will be back in action at home on 4/30/26 vs St. John's starting at 5:00 pm.

The varsity baseball team picked up another league win Monday at home vs BG 10-0. On the mound Darin Fussell threw the first four of the run-rule shortened game to pick up the victory. Darin allowed only 4 hits, striking out 3 Bobcat hitters and not allowing a run. Throwing the final frame was Jayce Derr. The Eagle offense got out in front early scoring 4, 2, and 3, in the first three innings. Darin Fussell also paced the offense with a 3 hit day (3-3, RS, 2 RBI). Also picking up hits was Alex Goetz 2-3 (2 RS, 2 RBI, 3B), Landon Echelberry 2-2 (2 RS, 2 RBI, 2B, BB), Max Morrison 2-3 (RS), Aiden Berryman 2-3 (2 RS, SB), Ray Campos 1-1 (SB), Brayden Toneff 1-3 (2B), Chase Vriezelaar 1-2 (2 RBI). This puts the Eagles record at 10-4 (7-1 NLL). The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow on the road at BG.
