Dear OCS Parents and Staff:
I am writing to inform you of an important update regarding Fassett Junior High School. Due to a significant rise in student illness, Fassett Junior High will be closed from Tuesday, December 16, through Friday, December 19, 2025.
On Monday, December 15, nearly 27% of Fassett students were absent with influenza-like and norovirus-like symptoms. After reviewing this level of absenteeism and ongoing reports of illness, the Toledo Lucas County Health Department (TLCHD) determined that active transmission is occurring within that school community. Continuing in-person learning under these conditions could increase the risk of further spread among students and staff. For this reason, TLCHD has recommended that Fassett Junior High close for four days to allow time for recovery, reduce transmission, and complete enhanced cleaning measures in the building.
At this time, all other schools in the District remain open and will continue normal operations. We will closely monitor attendance and illness reports across all buildings and remain in communication with TLCHD to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff.
To support families, TLCHD has provided two health guides, which are attached for your review. Please take a few moments to look through these materials.
We understand that this situation may cause concern, and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we prioritize the well-being of our entire school community.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jim Fritz

November 18, 2025
Dear Oregon City Schools Community,
This afternoon, a high school student riding a bicycle swerved across the road and struck a school bus (#89) that was traveling on Seaman Road. We are very thankful to report that the student was not injured.
District administrators responded immediately to the scene and worked closely with the Oregon Police Department to ensure the safety and well-being of all involved. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the bus driver for their professionalism and calm response, as well as to the students on the bus for their cooperation and patience during the situation.
The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority, and we appreciate the continued support of our community as we work together to maintain a safe environment for all.
Thank you,
Dr. Jim Fritz Superintendent Oregon City Schools
