🚨 Today, students had the valuable opportunity to learn from School Resource Officer McLeod about a critical real-life topic: what to do if you're pulled over in a traffic stop.🛑
Officer McLeod provided a thorough and informative session covering proper protocol, individual rights, and key aspects of Ohio traffic law. His instruction emphasized safety, respect, and awareness—empowering students with knowledge that could make all the difference in real-life situations.

Message from Starr Elementary Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
| want to inform you of an incident that occurred involving one of our students. While our fourth graders were riding the school bus to a recent event, a single bullet was discovered on the floor by another student. It was reported to school personnel, who followed district safety protocols and notified school administrators.
Upon investigation, we determined that the bullet had accidentally fallen from a student's coat pocket. There was no weapon involved, and at no time was there any direct threat to students or staff. Please know that we are actively working in close collaboration with the student’s family and local law enforcement to ensure that our school remains a safe and supportive environment for all students and staff.
Please know that the safety of our students is our top priority. We take all matters involving school safety seriously and are committed to maintaining a secure environment for all.

Bike to school will still take place today for Coy Elementary School and Starr Elementary School, following the two hour delay schedule.
The Oregon Ohio Police Division, The City of Oregon, Safe Kids Greater Toledo, and Bay City Bicycle Club will be participating in Bike To School Day with students from Coy Elementary School and Starr Elementary School on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Students from both of the listed schools are being encouraged to ride their bicycles to and from school. Three (3) meeting locations have been set for Starr Elementary students and two (2) meeting locations have been set for Coy Elementary students. Oregon Police Officers, City Engineers, Safe Kids staff, and members of our local bicycle club will accompany students on their rides to school. Parents and Teachers are encouraged to join along on the ride. A special thanks to Safe Kids Greater Toledo for providing a limited supply of bicycle helmets to assure that students are fitted properly with a bicycle helmet. Additional information, including a map for each schools can be found on the below link. We hope to see you all there as we celebrate #BikeMonth.
We ask all traveling motorists to be extra cautious on May 7, 2025 during school arrival and dismissal, as we will have many young riders on the roadways and in the bike lanes. Slow Down and Pay Attention, giving the students extra space.
