As we prepare for the upcoming winter season, we want to share how our district will notify you in the event of school delays or cancellations.
How We Communicate:
Oregon City Schools uses BrightArrow as our primary tool for direct district communications, including weather closures, school delays, and critical safety announcements. BrightArrow automatically pulls phone numbers and email addresses directly from PowerSchool for custodial parents of currently enrolled students.
In addition to direct BrightArrow notifications, decisions regarding delays and cancellations are shared with local media, including WTOL (Channel 11), FOX (Channel 36), WTVG (Channel 13), and WNWO (Channel 24).
Decision Timelines:
Our decision timelines are based on when our buses leave the transportation facility to begin picking up students. Our goal is to announce decisions within the following timeframes:
2-Hour Delay or Cancellation: Our goal is to announce decisions by 6:00 AM.
Delay to Cancellation: If conditions do not improve after a 2-hour delay is called, our goal is to announce the full cancellation by 8:00 AM.
Please note: While 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM are our target times, rapidly changing weather conditions may occasionally cause an announcement to occur outside of this window.
Verify Your Contact Details:
We sent a test notification on September 6th. If you did not receive this test message, your contact information in PowerSchool may need to be updated. This message was sent from “Notification from Oregon City Schools” with a subject line of “OCS Test Notification”.
To update your details:
Contact the office of any school building where you have a student enrolled and provide your current phone number or email address.
You do not need to contact multiple buildings, updating your contact record at one school automatically updates it district-wide.
